Roses, Austria & An Update

Hello, I hope everyone is ok and not too fed up with the good old British weather!

I will start with a bit of an update, Focus On Imaging went very well with both seminars being very well attended and received with plenty of great questions and here is me in action!

The good news is that for anyone that wasn't able to make it, I will be giving a free webinar on Thursday 4th April at 4pm UK time which is based on the very seminar I gave at Focus with a slight twist in that I will be talking about the importance of not missing an opportunity, how to use a starburst filter creatively and why concentrating on just one subject at a time really can pay off. Webinar

With one thing and another I have not been able to get out and about much with my camera, but this doesn't mean I haven't been taking photos! I was given some beautiful red velvety roses which had the most wonderful textured petals, so armed with my misting spray I decided to re-awaken my creative side and here are just a couple of the images from that shoot:

At the beginning of the year I actually took off for a couple of weeks to Germany and Austria for a bit of a break in the mountains, I of course took my camera and managed to get some shots I'm very happy with, so here are just two of the mountains both in black and white and one of a line of very snowy trees.

If you want to see more from that trip including sunrises, sunsets and even some birds just pop over to either my website or Flickr page. I've had to hit the ground running since being back getting ready for Focus and also a certain forth coming wedding. In amongst all this I have also been starting to plan for Romania and a couple of other smaller projects which are in the planning stages as you read this as well as some exciting bits and bobs which I hope to bring you more news in the coming weeks. I hope to get two more posts in before the wedding and honeymoon, the first of which will be dedicated to that very beautiful flower the snowdrop and then one last one before I switch off for a few weeks with all the latest news etc.

Focus On Imaging 2013

Hello, so thing have been quite quiet on the on photographic front due to some exciting developments and news as well as some serious wedding planning, only 9 weeks to go! So lets start off with the Transylvanian Wildlife Project, in my previous post I broke the news of being made research director for the project, a huge honour for me and something I am very excited about but also mentioned something about exciting news, well here it is:

The project has be awarded a National Geographic Explorers Grant for a 12 month project which will commence this spring and one that I will be heading up, I have already started the leg work ready to hit the ground running with a fantastic and very dedicated team where we will be monitoring the numbers of bears, lynx and wolves in the Carpathian Mountains of Covasna County in Romania. Alongside this we will also be running biodiversity studies of the areas in which we will be working. National Geographic Explorers

Away from Romania, I am delighted to announce that I will be attending Focus on Imaging at the NEC this year as a Local Hero of the Manfrotto School of Xcellance. Not only will I be giving two seminars titled "Nature's Beauty Through My Lens" but I will also be leading thirty minutes long one-to-one workshop sessions, both of which are free but space is limited so you will need to book. In this special seminar for Focus On Imaging I will talk about some of my most memorable images of both wildlife and landscapes and the stories behind capturing them. Looking at different techniques, colour, monochrome and more artistic takes on familiar species I will discuss the importance of knowing your equipment to be able to achieve the results you're looking for in camera.

Focus On Imaging promises to be a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to it, but in the mean time I'm hoping to get out and about this weekend and photograph some snowdrops in between working my way through mammoth amounts of wedding preparations and drinking lots of tea! Fingers crossed I will have some results to post next week, but for now have a great weekend what ever you are up to, the weather's looking promising!
